This one goes out to all the petite ladies out there who have been told they cannot wear curtain styles, like the trapeze dress. That is 100% a fashion myth. This style, also known as the tent dress, belongs to everyone. It can be worn beautifully by the tall, small, thin, and curvy. The key to this silhouette, as well as any fashion, is PROPORTION, PROPORTION, PROPORTION.

The first “P” is for proportion of length. I designed this dress for my body, which is a petite 5’2″. This means my hemlines are shorter than the industry standard, because I am shorter than the industry standard. If I had purchased this off the rack, the hemline in the front would have most likely cut me at the knee (this would have significantly shortened the look of my legs). Having the front hemline hit me several inches above the knee, while sweeping down in the back, provides the illusion of distance. And distance reads as lengthy legs.

The second “P” is for proportion of fabric. I strategically controlled the volume of fabric to serve my shape. The front of the dress is significantly less full, allowing me to carry this look. In the back of the dress I added chevroning seams, which create 3 tiers. Each tier has more volume than the next, so the dress gets exponentially fuller as the fabric cascades.

The third “P” is for proportion of design elements. The black sequin appliqué was a bold choice made on purpose. The strong look of the yoke emphasizes the shoulders, which helps me carry such a large silhouette. The yoke also extends a little beyond my natural shoulder, making my frame looking broader than it actually is. The open back is also an important design detail that helps me pull off such a full garment. The back cutout helps restore the balance between the amount of fabric used and the surface area of my body.

Do you have a style you have always wanted to wear, but struggle to find the one that looks good? I am officially open for business and taking clients! I would love to make THAT dress for you!

The Lashes, The Skin, & The Wardrobe

What do our wardrobes and skin have in common? Both require a major refresh after the long New England winter! After months of harsh weather (with the clothes to match) both our complexions and closets are in need of some brightening. I teamed up with Beaucage Salon & Spa to refresh and rejuvenate my skin, while I designed the dress to match.

To set the scene, Beaucage is tucked away on the upper floors of a historic brownstone. The salon on their first floor is sleek and elegant—modernity perfectly mixed with classic Back Bay. With panoramic floor to ceiling windows over looking Newbury Street, the city is a beautiful backdrop for your wash, cut, and blow-dry. Move up to the spa on their second floor, and you’ll find more quite, calm, and intimate surroundings. The dimmer lit rooms, plush leather couches, and soothing instrumentals have you relaxed in no time.

The Dress

For this look I wanted to create something that captured the romantic, fun, and flowering feel of spring. The off the shoulder, sweethearted, surplus neckline is very flirtatious. The high-low, full skirted silhouette makes you want to get out there and move. Due to weather, we had to stay inside, but this dress would be beautiful in the pubic gardens or marbled courtyard of the BPL. The fabrication is silk dupioni in a floral print. I chose the color green as a symbol for regrowth, rejuvenation, and the hopefulness of the promise of spring.

The Lashes

Do not underestimate the power of long, luxurious, lashes! I absolutely LOVE my extensions. Misty did a great job picking lashes of the perfect length, thickness, and curl for my face. By combining different lash sizes, she achieved a full and fluffy look; somehow natural and dramatic at the same time.  Not only do they brighten and open up my eyes, but they are also a major time saver! Having lashes has cut my morning makeup routine in half (there is no longer a need for mascara or eye liner). Not to mention, I no longer have to use harsh makeup removers on stubborn eye makeup. Talk about #iwokeuplikethis on a whole new level!

The Facial

Misty was amazing and left my skin hydrated and glowing from within! Not only did I receive the best facial of my life, but she really explained the reasoning behind the techniques and products she used. She began by conducting an analysis of my skin to ensure I received a treatment catered to my specific needs. After gently cleansing my skin to remove any makeup residue, I was fresh, clean, and ready to rejuvenate!  She first applied a chemical peel under hydrating steam (these peels are of differing levels depending on what your skin needs). After this, she performed a complete extraction of clogged pours. Then was my favorite part, a massage of the face, neck and shoulders. Misty explained how the massage increases the blood flow and oxygen to the skin cells, which increases the lifespan of collagen and elastin cells. After that, she applied a cooling and calming algenate mask, and left me to relax and meditate for about ten minutes. The facial ended with an eye cream, hydrating serum, and my favorite—moisturizer and sun screen. The Environ hydrating facial was exactly what I needed to remedy the effects of winter on my skin. The results were incredible, just look at the pictures!

The Hair & Makeup

Following themes of refresh and rejuvenate, we wanted the hair and makeup to have that same purified vibe. Stylist, Amber, blew out my hair to be sleek, voluminous, and totally fresh for spring! Dericle, one of the Beaucage makeup artists, brought out the natural glow of my skin by creating a clean and dewy look. Amber and Dericle focused on natural beauty and bringing out your best self. It was a very refreshing change from the typical salon experience, where you come out looking completely overdone. Both are extremely talented and passionate about what they do. I would strongly recommend them to anyone!
