March is here and around the country fashion enthusiasts are ushering in Spring with sneak peaks of their whimsical Spring wardrobes. However, here in Boston, with our 6ft snow banks and “balmy” 40 degree weather (yes, everything is relative), we are just not there yet. In the final stretch of Winter, the muted grey surroundings and tepid atmosphere are unmoving. The staying power of the ice and snow magnifies our edginess and feelings of anticipation. In this wasteland environment it is hard to find inspiration. I feel much more like a survivalist than a fashion blogger! Surprisingly enough, it was these feelings that inspired my look for Moved by the Mode. The pairing of the over-sized shearling jacket (H&M), suede fringe sheath dress (BCBG Max Azria), and animal print booties (Tsubo) is my survivalist-chic take on New England pre-Spring style. The fabrics and patterns are reminiscent of primitive garb, and emulate the natural materials one could have cultivated off the land. The contrast of the cross-body canary bag (Henri Bendel) gives the look extra punch and has a dramatic effect by polarizing the neutral and natural textures of the outfit. I put on these hides, my fashion armor, apply my accessories, my war paint, and I’m ready to wait out the last days of Winter.
